Matt Kozacek - Director of Bands (Fall 2005- present)

Matt found his passion in music by being involved in band through elementary and high school, then decided to make music his career and attended the School of Music at the University of Arizona in Tucson.  This is his ninth year teaching after graduating from the University of Arizona with a BA in Music Education.  Matt also completed his MA in Music Education from Boston University in May of 2009.  Matt is a tuba player and while at the U of A, played in numerous ensembles, even touring through the middle of Europe with the Wind Ensemble.  He was the principal tuba player in the Wind Symphony, and Tuba Section Leader of the marching band for two years. He played in the pep band for three of the four years he was at UA.  Matt was also actively involved in Kappa Kappa Psi, the national honorary band fraternity, doing many service activities with the brotherhood. Matt is an active member of AMEA and has served as the Southwest Region Band Chair, taking responsibility for organizing regional auditions and festivals.  Matt is also currently serving as Vice President of WGAZ, Arizona’s local affiliate of Winterguard International.  This year will be Matt’s fourth year as department chair of the Arts Department at Basha High School.  With what little free time is remaining, Matt enjoys spending time with his loving wife, Meghan, his daughter, Audrey and his newborn son Owen.
 

Brandon Kiesgen - Associate Director of Bands (Fall 2008- present)

Brandon began his journey into music in the 5th grade playing the Euphonium.  Since then his musical adventure has been rewarding.  He attended NAU Curry Summer Music camp for 6 years while in band programs through high school.  In 2003, Brandon was the principal euphonium player for the Arizona All-State Band. From high school Brandon was accepted to Arizona State University where he received his music education from world-renowned performing artists Sam Pilafian and Patrick Sheridan. Brandon was  a member of the Academy Drum and Bugle corps in 2004 where he was able to participate in DCI competition.  Currently, Brandon loves to perform with his euphonium as a member of the Salt River Brass Band and dedicates himself to the education the many young musicians at Basha High School.
